Reason #3 – I let C chew unsuitable things
Reason #3 – I let C chew unsuitable things
May 26Let’s get this out in the open while it’s fresh: yes, C chewed on my friend’s cat’s toys tonight, and ooh boy did he enjoy it. My friend assures me her cat never even looks at the things, and they definitely looked pretty unchewed to me. Till C got to them, of course.
I also normally let him chew keys, clothes, seatbelts, my grandmother’s old emerald ring which I wear all the time, stuff that has fallen to the floor (even for more than 5 seconds), plant leaves, ziploc bags and all sorts of bottles and containers for hair and skin products.
I do draw the line at some things: if a toy falls to the ground at home I just pick it up and return it to him unless the dog or the cats have licked it, in which case EWW. If it falls to the ground elsewhere I take in on a case-by-case basis. The supermarket trolley handles get a thorough scrubbing with Clorox sanitising wipes before I place him there. Glass and hard plastic are usually kept away or gently removed. My toes and my sister’s are pretty much off-limits, no matter how much he insists on going for them with his mouth wide open. Used diapers are a definite no-no with me, but I’ve discovered my sister lets him have them for a while. I guess it’ll come in handy if he ever needs to survive in harsh conditions.
Paper placemats, napkins, till receipts and cardboard packing are controversial, because I like to let him crinkle them to hear them sound, but I don’t like sticking my fingers down his throat in his mouth to take out lumps of wet paper, so it’s usually down to who gets them faster. You’d be surprised at the score so far.
But yeah, today he had a great time chewing on my friend’s cat’s allegedly unused toys, and to be frank I did not interrupt my lovely dinner to stop him. God I’m bad at parenting.

First of out this one made me lol, literally. Secondly, my son loves shoes so much that he actually did learn to crawl for shoes. We have to hide all shoes in our house from him. I he has several pairs of baby shoes he plays with. He loves dad’s shoes and tries to put them on as well as tries to chew them. He insists on wearing nothing but shoes sometimes. He’s 11 months old and getting four top teeth at the same time so he will chew on anything but shoes are his favorite.

Getting top teeth at 11 months? I’m jealous! My radioactive barracuda boy had even molars by that time.
And I SO loved his gummy smiles! *sigh*

The only chance of me finishing a meal in a restaurant with my daughter was to ignore the fact that she was chewing every crayon (clearly marked non-toxic) in the box provided by the hostess to a bloody pulp!

You must have changed very artsy diapers that night!

Been there! My MIL is an excessive worrier and has a fit when I let them chew on crayons. I just randomly blurt out “NON-TOXIC!” while she’s having her fits. :)

Crayons? She has a fit over CRAYONS?
She would have DIED if she were my MIL.

Ooh, a guest post? How cool!
And I forgot – Cameron’s fave teething chew toy? Climbing gear. Ropes, webbing … shoes. The shoes I hid. The rest? Bah. Whatever.

I know this is an old one, but I just read it. Freakin’ hilarious.
I’ve got a pic of Cameron, 6mos old, sitting propped up against a dog with a family friends’ purple shoe laces in his mouth. Yep, shoe laces. Relatively new … relatively. I swear, those things nearly taught him to crawl, he wanted them so bad.
