Reason #111 – “Just add water” is too difficult for me

Nov 12

Tonight, I am really annoyed with myself. How dumb can one person be? Seriously!

I had ONE task for today:

Task: Give C a bath.

(Goodness knows I don’t bathe him often enough!)

Materials: one dirty little kid, one bathtub full of warm water.

Procedure: Get little kid naked, dump little kid in water, scrub the heck out of little kid, get little kid out of bath, towel dry little kid.

Result: one clean little kid.

What could possibly go wrong?

Well…

On the day I left for New York there was a big landslide near where I live. Nasty thing, over 20 dead, many houses lost. Bear with me, this will make sense.

Among the many disruptions caused by this huge catastrophe in our community (and I don’t mean my leaving the country,) the water supply became a tad erratic.

Ms. Lilly reported on this every single day while I was away: “There was no water today, so we took C out for a meal,” “There was no water today, so I washed C’s clothes at my sister’s house,” “There was no water last night, so we couldn’t bathe C till this morning.”

Ms. Lilly was out today for her weekly class, and Adi I was left in charge. Easy peasy! I avoided work ran errands and avoided work got a lot of wedding planning underway in the morning, then I avoided work added new ads to the blog and avoided work cooked dinner in the afternoon, and suddenly it was time to pick C up from daycare and alas! I hadn’t had a chance to get any paid work done. Damn, it’s gonna be a late night tonight.

So C gets home, plays a bit, has his dinner, gets all excited about bathtime, and…

…fancy that, there was NO EFFING WATER.

If someone had remembered that the water comes and goes, someone might have filled the tub early and then just heated the water up. But someone was too busy avoiding work to remember her baby’s bath.

I need a kick in the rear. Volunteers, the queue starts here.

  1. Hey Stranger! I’ve been thinking of you!

I can’t seem to bathe my child without getting the nasty umbilical cord wet. Oh yeah…I HAD MY KID! Woo Hoo! I hope you are well so you can continue to avoid work.

Kisses to you and C. Oh! My kid is a “C” too. How about that!?

  3. Sporadic bathing — it’s not just for kids, it is even sometimes for overwhelmed moms!

Now, dear, please give us a TRUE fail. We all count on you to keep that bar high for the rest of us.

  4. C wouldn’t be a true little boy without a touch of dirt. And unless he was rolling around in a pile of maure all day, I’m certain he’ll be just fine.

Also- idea for new post: I strive to keep my water bill low by forcing my son to bathe in a tub that he’s too big to even sit down in.

Adorable picture though- tried to comment on your facebook profile pic, but it was all wonky. Looks like you had a fabulous time!

Are you mocking my beauteous bathtub? He loves it so much I’m sure he’ll insist on using it until he breaks it with the sheer weight of his ass.

Facebook wonky? Nah. You must be joking…

Por dicha era el agua del baño y no agua para la formula o para el jugo! Ahi se hubiera sido un problema. Por lo demas, los wipes cumplen la funcion de la limpieza, y al agua patos al dia siguiente! Viva la tranquilidad!

  6. Ah.. hygiene. Opiate of the masses.

My small boy is bathed every 7 to 10 days like clockwork. If his father is left in charge, no one even wipes his face before bed.

He is quite literally the healthiest child I know.

    Hmmmm…

Can’t wait to hide retire in your sunny part of the world. Can I be a redhead there?

Even here in the “hoity-twoity U.S.” we don’t always bathe our kids every day. My son and daughter didn’t get a bath last night either, they got one the night before. Usually I just let them hop in the shower with me, because its easier when I’m in a hurry (and I’m not allowed to pick them up right now). I have a friend whose only concern is when her baby gets the “cheese” under her neck… ick!

There’s no need to give your newborn a bath every day. In fact, bathing your baby more than several times a week may dry out his or her skin. If you’re quick with clean diapers and fresh burp cloths, you’re already cleaning the parts that really need attention — the face, neck and diaper area.

Sorry, your comment was mistaken as spam and I only just saw it. I definitely don’t bathe C every day, and I only bathe him as often as I do because it helps him sleep. Diapers, bibs and wet wipes are the way forward!

Well, unless he stinks, he’ll be just fine. There’s speculation that all of the allergies people are developing (at least in the hoity-twoity U.S.) are due to prevalence of anti-bacterial soaps and not getting dirty so your bod can build up immunity. No bath=doing C a favor!

    ofthesea Reply:

Well, it’s not like I bathe him every day… only when he’s stinkful.

Thanks for reminding me to add the link to my previous wrongdoing!
