Reason #117 – Injury and (psychological) Trauma

Reason #117 – Injury and (psychological) Trauma

Nov 25

Last night I was happily writing my blog post for the day when I was rudely interrupted by a loud BONK followed by about 7 seconds of silence.

We all know about my son’s propensity to accidents, and by this point I even have a scale with which to measure the gravity of the situation:

  • “Bonk” followed by immediate shrieking = “I threw dropped my toy.”
  • “Bonk” followed by a 3-second silence before shrieking = “I was jumping on the bed slipped and I hit my head against the wall.”
  • “Bonk” followed by 5 seconds of silence = “I climbed on a high place accidentally fell and it really hurts.”

But 7 seconds? 7 seconds was unprecedented. I dashed madly, terrified of what I’d find: Blood! Brains! Airplane parts!

I found something relatively tame: my son lying on the floor in one piece.

It would have been just fine if I had left him on the floor in the first place, but when I last saw him he was sleeping on my bed, surrounded by “protective” pillows. (Pillows, you are FIRED. Clear your desks and leave immediately.)

Here is an image for scale:

That is a fricken-fracken-TALL bed. My legs swing if I’m sitting on it. It is monstrously far from the ground, so much we use the space under it like a storage basement. The damned bed is hella tall.

And C fell from it and landed splat on ceramic tile.

Nice.

- This is the end of the “injury” part -

NOTE: I hate to be a tease, but I am unbelievably sleep deprived. I promise the trauma part for tomorrow, or maybe even later today. Just. Not. Now.

  1. I know the sound of the BONK from a bed this high. My boy likes to sleep between Hubby’s legs at night. One night, Hubby thought he felt the boy falling over him so he flipped over really fast, catapulting my child across the room… :(

Am I going to burn in Hell because my first reaction to your story was laughing?

Probably, but that’s okay cuz we’ll be there too! Once the boy stopped crying, we laughed until WE were crying!!

Awesome. I have a 7 month old baby girl who I’m positive secretly thinks I totally mess up her chances of leading a happy, well-adjusted life on a daily basis because I might be a crap mom too. Love your blog, glad I found it on “Stumble Upon”. Just what I needed to distract me for even more hours of the day when I should be playing with my daughter. :)

Thank you! I’m starting the spin-off blog as soon as I can afford to buy the URL. I’m that skint.

Oh nonono, remember I was gonna have his ears checked? They are JUST FINE, and that’s $80 and an hour I will never see again.

Worry not: the Blessed Child is OK. I, however, am not: I lost all access to the blog’s backend and I have NO IDEA of how to fix it. I will ask a friend who knows about these things… after I’ve taken C to the vet.
    Eugh.
