Heck, I’d rather work on my inspiration board than look at C’s sickeningly cute baby photos right now, and that pretty much tells the story.
At almost 34 years of age and with one failed marriage already under my belt, I have again become a regular bridezilla. Not because I’m terrorising vendors and family (or so I like to think) but because I am obsessed about creating the Party To End All Parties: it must be beachy and casual yet exquisitely gourmet, say a lot about Costa Rica (and also something about Denmark!), be as eco-friendly as possible, stick to a rational budget and be, well, perfect.
Oh, and it has to seem effortless and almost improvised, in a “what, this old thing I just threw on?” kinda way.
The Dane will be happy as long as the food is good and the beer is plentiful. Me? I won’t stop till I get featured in Martha Effing Stewart’s Destination Weddings! (OK, not really. But it would rock my socks.)
And so while I’ve spent hours researching wedding blogs, emailing back and forth with the chef, recovering wood and testing wildflowers and sawing seashells and buying crap and pulling strings and calling favours and begging for help from everyone I know (btw, can anyone lend me a small white pearl pendant?) C has been left to Ms. Lilly’s tender mercies almost 24/7.
I haven’t bathed C since last year.
I haven’t put him to bed since last year as well.
I haven’t kicked ball with him since… well… you know.
This actually makes me feel pretty bad, and in a twisted way I kinda cherish the hour we’ve been spending together every night at 3am this week, when he starts crying in his sleep for no apparent reason.
Oh, I see now.
My poor boy!
But fear not: wedding planning will be over soon (42 days, but who’s counting?) and then we’ll move to Cali with the Dane and I’ll spend my every waking hour thinking about home decoration being a good less crap mom.
In the meantime, there’s this. (Click to view at full size, and please comment/suggest/opine to your heart’s content!)
This, and a certain 3 am wake-up call.

Not sure if I should comment on your bad parenting or that I think your wedding looks like it will be stunningly beautiful!! lol! You freaking rock!!

I love the mojito bar sign. Love it. And the shoe check. You will do good.
I have to tell myself regularly when work and/or school get busy that the kids will be okay, because I will return to “normal” eventually…. someday…

Someday! :D
We won’t have a mojito bar exactly, but we’ll serve some cool signature cocktails instead. Can’t. Wait.

I am so not into weddings. I would rather spend the money on a great vacation.

Is there such a thing as “a great vacation” once you have kids?

Well, Okay but you’ll always be Ofthesea the First.

Thank god, I got married before i had my kid because surely, she would not have survived my year of wedding planning. My mood board was five fucking pages!
Also- totally envious of your guests. If the mood board goes as planned, it’s gonna be fabulous!

YOU! I need your opinion on a lot of things, you have a way sounder eye than I ever will. Expect an email soon.
And five pages? This is the merest summary of the terabytes of photos and crap I have in my mood HARD DRIVE!

Ha! Well, then you’ll REALLY LOVE the wedding! :D

Keep this up and you can make my “remarriage” board.
DH and I aren’t even sure if we were legally married. I mean we have the certificate but there were some serious issues with the actual ceremony and I learned that some of the things that were skipped were the most important legal parts… I digress
Also have fun with the planning god knows I did.

I’ve been to California numerous times. From San Diego to Los Angeles to San Francisco, Tahoe, Yosemite, Napa, Sonoma, etc. Does that count? It’s a great place!

Have fun planning a wedding! I LOVE planning weddings. I planned my wedding before/during/after the wedding. I’m still planning it and it’s been over since 1996!
We hope you don’t abandon us after you become a wife! Who will speak for us Perfect Crappy Moms otherwise?

In fact, I’ll be starting 1000 reasons I’m a Bad Wife soon too! ;)
And ROFL at you still planning!

I was hoping you would be starting a Bad Wife blog too but didn’t want to appear tacky and suggest it. However, my friends and I can contribute MANY guest columns!
You can tell around here it’s all about parenting and marriage…in between our sips of wine.
In fact on tomorrow’s agenda? Yet another Pub Crawl with a group of friends AND our kids in tow. Starting at noon.

Hey if Ms. Lily isn’t getting up with him at 3am, you’re doing the heavy lifting. AND you’re letting her get her fix of C before you move to LA. So it’s really HELPING….
