Reason #135 – I let my son be eaten by savage beasts

Reason #135 – I let my son be eaten by savage beasts

Jan 18

This is not a metaphor. I am not exaggerating either. My toddler was eaten alive by wild creatures and instead of rescuing him I was annoyed by how much he complained.

C may not have the mettle of a martyr, but I was definitely Nero in a previous life.

I put C to bed at his usual time and went downstairs for some quality time with the Dane (and before you go all nudge-nudge-wink-wink on me I’ll have you know “quality time” meant a House marathon and a river of Bloody Marys.) And every 45 minutes or so C would let out his trademark Horrific Midnight Scream®.

C’s Horrific Midnight Scream® is sudden, loud, high-pitched, scratchy and TERRIFYING, a lot like a whinny from the hellish horses of the ghost riders in the sky.

It gives me the major creeps.

We checked on him every time, and every time we found him more or less asleep, totally dry, free from bedding tangles, not too hot or too cold, and always willing to accept more milk and fall right back asleep.

And then another hour would go by, and we’d be scared shitless by The Screech From Hell.

By the third or fourth time I was seriously losing it, and the Dane had to take over the checking and soothing, because I was gonna strangle the devil right out of my kid to make the screaming stop.

The next morning, we woke and saw this.

Holy HELL, the boy was being eaten alive by feral mosquitoes and I was angry about his screaming!

The ghost riders in the sky are coming for me tonight, and oh boy do I deserve it. Yippie-aye-oh.

I read something once about B Vitamin deficiencies being more attractive to mosquitoes… or maybe it was the other way around…

That totally works! For fleas, too. I took B vitamins last summer when both were buzzing around our apartment, and my roommate got way bitten more than I did.

Glad C has the copyright on the Horrific Midnight Scream so my Bear can’t use it ;)

Awww poor little guy! I know a few weeks ago L wasn’t feeling too good and I kind of brushed it off as a cold/teething and was getting very frustrated at our frequent night wake ups to realize a few days later just how crappy he felt! Way to make me feel guilty kid!

Aww, poor guy. How did they get in? You must live somewhere warm…you were not at a hotel were you, because then you have to worry about bed bugs….eww.

We were house sitting. I have no idea where they came from – I hardly got any bites!

  7. My daughter is totally the mosquito magnet, so I went through this a couple of times when she was young.
