Reason #144 – I make my boy watch drag shows
Reason #144 – I make my boy watch drag shows
Mar 14We are quickly settling into a few family routines here in California, and one of my favourites involves drag queens.
Who doesn’t adore drag queens?
C wakes up every morning at 6 am on the dot. It doesn’t make a difference if he went to bed late, if he went to bed drunk, if he went to bed drugged – at the stroke of 6 he’s up and hollering for “mama.”
Why did I ever teach him that word?
Anyway, for the sake of family peace and hoping to earn favours from the Dane, ahem every morning I get up and keep C busy and out of the way until 8 or so. We have a small breakfast, watch some telly, hang out in the sun that streams through our fantastic East-facing window (thank you, Caltech!) At first I tried the kiddie channels on TV, but C doesn’t really care for most shows, not when there is a whole new house to wreck explore, so after a few days I decided to just watch something I wanted to see while C chewed on all the old packaging and played with the Roomba.
I have no idea who decided that 7 am is a good time to rerun old episodes of Rupaul’s Drag Race, but they deserve a medal. Those queens brighten my mornings faster than a double espresso!
So now every morning the Blessed Child and I watch the most fabulous queens bicker, bitch and sashay away.
And we adore every second of it.
Whaddaya mean it’s not age-appropriate? You gay basher you!

No worries… My 7 year old and my 6 year old have become addicted to Dr G, Medical Examiner on Discovery channel… Drag queens or autopsies, which is worse? lol

My kiddo and I LOVE Drag Race! He is also a big fan of Castle, Family Guy, and Glee. What can I say, Mommy can only watch Spiderman so many times in a row before she cracks lol #goodparenting

He’s recently taken to watching 4 Weddings with me. I think he’s on the highway to becoming gay. Nevermind, he’ll be simply fabulous!

Haha, my husband has you beat! His definition of taking care of the kids for me was either plopping them in front of Disney channel for as long as it took me to get back, or having them on his lap while he watched Bones – a show he won’t let me watch with him because of my queasy stomach. But I guess I’m lucky; it could be Family Guy instead…

Clarification: I say this *was* his definition because I’m hoping he’ll change it when he gets back from this deployment, not because he is no longer a part of our lives. :-)

C likes drag queens, F likes pawnbrokers. It’s cool.
Yes, my three year old watches Pawn Stars.
Sigh.
