Reason #167 – My baby sleeps on the floor
Reason #167 – My baby sleeps on the floor
Jul 19My son has an adorable little white bed, with a safety rail to keep him from falling out, the cutest little striped animal duvet, and a cozy huge green leaf canopy from IKEA which I’d frankly love to have over MY bed.
Yet he sleeps on the floor.
Some nights, for no reason that I can discern, C wakes up and cries. No amount of back rubbing, milk, songs or stories will soothe him. The kid will writhe like an eel and kick like a mule and screech like a pig in the slaughter for what seems like hours on end, and nothing I do helps him settle.
And then suddenly in the middle of his half-asleep wailing he gets out of bed, plonks himself on the floor, grabs one of his many reading cushions as a pillow and falls asleep on the spot, usually for the rest of the night.
Who am I to argue with that?
I have learned to not even try to cover him with a blanket or anything for fear that he will wake up screaming again.
Actually, I’ve learned to let C sleep any way he wants to sleep: on cardboard? Sure. A bed of nails? Go for it. Soaked in pee? Be my guest. If the boy wants to sleep on the floor, then he gets to sleep on the floor.
Even if it leads to scenarios like this one in the morning:

Heartbreaking.
But not as much as when he decides he wants to sleep face-down in a gutter.

Don’t feel bad…when my little man was 2 he feel asleep in the dining room walking to his bedroom for a nap. And i did not move him for fear of waking him.

You know the First Rule of Parenting: “Do NOT talk about parenting”.
Eh, no, I mean: “DO NOT, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE wake a sleeping child”!

Understandable. My little Russian guy is pre-asthmatic and gets the night time hives so El Doctor has given permission for the nightly meds…….
……otherwise I would DEFINITELY be on the list of Bad Moms Who Drug Kids Who Don’t Need Drugs.

During the first six months my Russian-adopted son was home he screamed EVERY FRIGGING NIGHT!!!!!
Nothing stopped it.
Then one day he stopped on his own.
And it was SO much fun to listen to others give all kinds of useless advice that didn’t work and to be met with “hmmmm…..something must be wrong with him/you.”
So let that darling child of yours sleep on the floor and drink more wine! You’re doing a great job.

Last night, just to punish me, he decided to NOT sleep. Not on the floor, not through a door, not with a fox, not in a box. Damn kid woke at 3:30 am and for all I know he is still awake!

We are on regular nightly doses of Benadryl….and my kid is 8 years old now.
Child Services will be on the way soon! Hopefully he’ll be asleep when they arrive.

The Dane frowns upon me when I drug the kid. Sad, but true.
Awwww, muffin! Well, at least he’s sleeping right? My son is still in a crib. He’s not even 2 yet but I’m afraid to move him out because he rolls around like crazy still.

I would have kept C in a cage, ahem, CRIB if he were not so incredibly huge. A toddler bed [with an electrified fence] was the only option for us!
