Reason #189 – The missing monkey disaster
Reason #189 – The missing monkey disaster
Sep 06It all starts with a backpack.
A monkey backpack, to be precise.
The monkey was a present from my friend Mu, who is also responsible for hooking me up with the Dane. I cannot begin to explain how much I love her.
Back to the monkey: it is an awesome backpack and we love it.
The monkey became our diaper/snack bag and we took it everywhere: the park, the zoo, the beach, Costa Rica, Denmark. Wherever we went, so did the monkey, with its ever ready supply of diapers, wipes, cheerios and even a spare change of clothes.
Last Saturday we went on a mini-road trip that started without a destination, meandered through the dead end of Mulholland Drive, landed us by chance into an awesome Mexican restaurant in Topanga, and finally saw us return via the beautiful Pacific Coastal Highway. And since it was on our way and the sunset was near, we decided to pay a visit to the Santa Monica Pier and get some ice cream.
And that is when I realised C was in bad need of a diaper change.
Bad.
His poor diaper had not been changed since maybe 10 am (Oops! Bad mama left the boy marinading in his pee!) and it was so heavy it was dangling almost to his knees. I cannot even begin to explain how that made him look, but the words “beyond pathetic” and “woefully neglected” come to mind.
It was time for the monkey!
The monkey…
The monkey?
Where on Earth was the monkey?!
Oh dear.
My son had been wearing the same diaper for 9 hours, and I did not have a fresh diaper for him.
And by this time the bulky swinging sodden diaper was practically making poor C limp.
Desperate times call for desperate measures: I started eyeing all other toddlers at the pier until I found one the right size, and I accosted his parents with a sob story about how we left home early and I didn’t pack enough diapers, ahem, and would they by any chance have a diaper to spare?
I may be the ultimate failure as a mom, but at least give me credit for this:
The diaper I got was a perfect size 6.

Of course I would. I was planning on getting Dax the dog one for his birthday, so I can just grab both!
Just shoot me an email at ljohnsey@sprint.blackberry.net with your mailing address. I will go pick them up this weekend.

I can get them here. If you can’t find it, let me know and I will be more than happy to “donate” a new one to C!!!

It’s not in the house and it’s not in the car, but I still have a few places to search before I start crying properly :(
