Reason #49 – I make my son sleep outdoors

Reason #49 – I make my son sleep outdoors

Jul 23

During our recent jaunt to the Viking lands we tried several outlandish local customs (Cinnamonny pickled fish on rye? Yes please!) and while some were only good for blending in, others look set to become part of our routine.

I am still on the fence about leaving my baby sleeping outdoors.

Pros:

  • You don’t have to worry about waking the baby up: you can listen to music or watch TV or sing like nobody’s listening. What do you mean I do that already? Were you listening?
  • You can (dare I say it?) have a conversation without worrying about grown-up topics such as advanced sex techniques Middle East politics making their way into a young subconscious. And I like to talk about the Middle East. I like it a LOT.
  • You can enjoy a meal or a whole bottle glass of wine in peace, knowing that the smells and sounds won’t bring a little crawler begging for food. My son can’t be the only one who begs for scraps like a puppy, can he?
  • You can let your thoughts wander off towards Sparta, where you will submit each one of the 300 to a thorough medical (“Soldier, I now need you to clench your buttocks. Mmm… you seem in perfect health. Let me see those abs again to make sure.”) without being interrupted by a little person’s snoring, sleep-talking or thrashing about.
  • They look SO CUTE on the other side of the window!

  • You can make huge savings in nursery decoration.

  • It builds character.

Cons:

  • I got nothing.

Those Vikings, they really know what they’re doing.

And I don’t just mean the cinnamon fish.

This does not make you a crap Mom, because if so, then when I left my children sleeping snuggled up in their stroller on our porch, then I would be a crappier Mom. Because- I did this at minus thirty degrees celsius. And I'm not a crap mom- I'm a super mom. What? They had snow suits on a blankets. And if they were that cold, how would they have fallen asleep? Mmmm… Hypothermia?

PS Amateurs should not attempt. Our stroller has a plastic sheild and is DESIGNED for super, warm snuggles!

    100+?? I'd die!

Glad you like them, that is a super compliment coming from you. I do love taking pictures (especially of my muse-boy), but I insist my camera lets me down, especially when the light is not enough.

Someday I'll have a GOOD camera, and then the bad snaps will be 100% my fault!

That so wouldn't work on our 100+ degree days. even our dogs are begging to come back in after a minute outside.

i find the series of photos hilarious. Lovely post!
