Reason #97 – I don’t want to bring my boy to the beach
Reason #97 – I don’t want to bring my boy to the beach
Oct 11(MJ, you know I love you, but I told you I would write about this and I will!)
For reasons that will presently* become clear, I must go on an overnight beach trip next weekend. It is not exactly work, but almost. Stop giving me that look.
Since this is a scouting trip of sorts, I will need my wits about me and both hands free. It’s not nearby, either: I’ll have to drive 3 1/2 hours each way for a mere 1-night stay.
Also, I must check out the nightlife there. Seriously, it’s part of the job! Stop giving me that look right now.
As if this were not enough, I’m going on this trip with a couple of friends and their two kids (15 months and 5 years), which are 2 kids too many enough for a 3 1/2 hour drive.
So I’m leaving C home with the girls.
I was telling my beloved and beauteous friend MJ about this trip today, and invited her to come with us.
“And C? Is the gorgeous angel coming too?”
“Nope, he’s staying with Ms Lilly.”
“WHAT?? Are you not gonna bring the poor little sweetheart to the beach??”
“No.”
“But you said other kids are coming!!”
“Yeah, they are, but C. Is. Not.”
(C will stay home in comfort, surrounded by his posse, while mama enjoys a bit of fresh air and gets her research done properly. I will ask questions, look at locations, take pictures, meet people, and have a goddamned good night’s sleep for once in a month.)
“Aw, but we can help you look after him! You should totally bring him!”
MJ, my dear, I love you, but no.
You have no idea of what you are talking about.
Someday maybe you’ll understand. And when that day comes, I’ll help you get away from your kids!
*I love hate to be a tease, but bear with me a lil. News will be out as soon as poss!

Have a great time. You deserve some time away from the kid; we all need that to refresh.

Thereby following my one cardinal rule: The adults must always outnumber the kids. To do the opposite is to invite chaos and doom. Trust me on this.

I keep seeing these people who aren’t willing to leave their kids overnight? Seriously? First opportunity I get I’m telling my kiddo to “Peace Out” while I get a full night of sleep.

LOL! I was just talking about C entering the leg-hugging phase and what it means for my poor clothes!

Go have yourself a good time … work or not ;-) The kid(s) will be just fine and C will be delighted to see you on your return.
I’m visiting you today as a We♥Wordpress Team member.
Have a great day!

Welcome, fellow wordpress lover!
The plan has changed, and now it looks like we’re going for 2 nights, so I am taking C… and our nanny. Yay!

I agree….DO NOT DO IT! Give yourself a break & enjoy every second you get. We all need a break here and there, and trust me (I live at the Shore!) beachin’ it with kids is not the most fun thing out there. Enjoy!
Visiting from Lamby :)

I haven’t taken my bot yo a real beach yet (the Danish beach doesn’t count) so I do feel guilty of depriving him. But ugh, I DON’T WANNA bring him this time!!

i totally understand. Work is very important, and sometimes fun like yours. =)
I’ve done many getaways..for 3 hours. Can’t wait to have a real one.

ALL moms need to get away from time-to-time. I have yet to do an overnight trip away from my kids. That WILL change. Soon. It’s needed.

Wow, and your girls are big!
I’m not above an overnight trip. I’m actually taking my first “more-than-one-night” trip soon, let’s see how that goes!
[Reply to this]
I get that a lot – we will help with the kids – my family and friends don’t understand 2 things – first getting away is important and if they get sick, cranky, mean or just in a general mood – they are all mine again. Enjoy your time at the beach!

Yeah, “we will help” is worth sh*t when everyone goes to bed and you’re stuck with yet another sleepless night (yes we’re at that stage and oo-ee I’m cranky today!)
“Wanna help? TAKE HIM WITH YOU.”

Wait. Somewhere in Costa Rica is 3.5 hours from the beach? Well, I guess we did have to take a flight from San Jose to the coast.
Sorry…I’m off topic. Have fun and enjoy the sleep. I hear booze will help you sleep even better. Be sure to load up so you feel refreshed. Lift a glass to the pregnant chick! Ha!
Pura Vida!

The nearest beach is 90 minutes away, but I don’t love it. My favourite is 3 1/2 hours away. The fancypants north pacific ones take up to 7-8 hours (or a short flight) to reach.
I will raise a glass with a small umbrella to your health!

Totally didn’t find this cryptic at all. You have research to do alright! Good, fun research! Enjoy!

Never let anybody question your decision to leave the kid(s) at home. Maintaining your sanity is more important then a baby’s trip to the beach.

And way safer than actually *losing* my sanity while at the beach with said baby.
I am actually being responsible here!

Go to the beach and enjoy yourself! I’d kill for a beach day. Seriously. ;)

Don’t think it’s gonna be a walk on the beach – I have a buncha research to do!
But heck, I look forward to a couple of C-less days. And if that makes me a bad mom, so be it!

Is this little trip part of the big (cryptic) news in your about me section?! :D

I totally didn’t understand the cryptic message here. All I got was that you are leaving your kid while you go to the beach. And there’s nothing at all wrong with that! Moms need a break too. :-)

Well, apparently even a close, dear friend of mine thinks I’m mean because I don’t want to bring C along.
I told her I would write about it, and I did!
